Experts value M300 concrete for the reliability and versatility of the final product. It is suitable for the manufacture of products such as a washing machine and others, as well as for the construction of various objects. Today it is one of the most popular types of building material.
Composition of concrete M300
Concrete M300 B25 is made from 5 components in the following proportion:
- Cement M400 - 428 kg.
- Crushed stone - 1080 kg.
- Water - 220 liters.
- Quartz sand - 660 kg.
- Additives (or plasticizers) - about 4.8 kg.
Our mixture is of high quality due to the strict selection of components, but at the same time the price per cube is one of the most affordable among competitors. In production we use:
- dry, sifted cement M500 or M400;
- expanded clay, quarry or river sand, fraction up to 2 mm, cleared of clay and other contaminants;
- tap water has been prepared;
- only durable granite crushed stone of the 1st class of various fractions, depending on the scope of application of the material. Sometimes, in order to improve density indicators, it is allowed to use crushed stone of the same type, but of different fractions, in the solution.
Concrete M300 belongs to the group of heavy concretes. The main difference between M350 concrete and other brands is its different proportions.
Concrete: characteristics, application
Brand | Class | Strength, kgf/cm² | Application |
M100 | B7.5 | 98 | Leveling floors, light foundations |
M200 | B15 | 196 | Blind areas, screeds, concrete paths |
M300 | B22.5 | 294 | The most popular brand in individual construction: used for piles, beams, monolithic walls, slab and strip foundations, light-loaded floors, stairs, screeds |
M400 | B30 | 393 | Bridges, hydraulic structures, swimming pools |
M500 | B40 | 524 | Dams, dams, underground storage facilities, airstrips |
The main characteristics of concrete are its frost resistance and water resistance
M300, having these qualities, is also highly resistant to abrasion, and, unlike higher grades, does not set so quickly, which allows it to be transported over long distances (an important quality). All these properties of M300, together with the ideal price-quality ratio, have made this brand the most consumed concrete product on the market.
Scheme of processes during concrete hardening.
In individual construction, to prepare several cubes of M300 concrete, you can independently calculate its components.
Let's start by choosing a brand of cement. To do this, we use the Bolomey-Skramtaev formula: Rb = A x Rt x (C/V – 0.5), where Rb is the strength of concrete; A – coefficient taking into account the quality of aggregates (0.4 – 0.6); Rts – cement grade; C/W – cement-water ratio.
We take the recommended C/V ratio from the table (for example, for concrete M300 and cement M400 we get: C/V = 1/0.5 = 2):
Table 1
Cement, brand | Concrete, brand | ||
200 | 300 | 400 | |
300 | 0.56 | 0.40 | – |
400 | 0.64 | 0.50 | 0.41 |
500 | 0.72 | 0.60 | 0.45 |
For cement M400 we get: 0.5 x 400 x (2 – 0.5) = 200 x 1.5 = 300 (close to the table value 294).
For M500 we get: 0.5 x 500 x (1.67 – 0.5) = 250 x 1.17 = 292.5
When choosing other brands, the C/V ratio changes significantly, which negatively affects the optimal density of concrete, so let’s consider the proportions of sand and crushed stone for the M400 and M500 cement grades.
There are standard proportions of M300 concrete specified in the collection of documents “SNiP 82-02095”. In particular, the following cement consumption rates are indicated:
table 2
Cement | Consumption in kg/m³ for M300 concrete |
M500 | 510 |
M400 | 600 |
In the same document we find the ratio of sand and crushed stone:
Table 3 (for M300 concrete)
Cement M400 | Cement M500 |
Composition, C:P:SH | Composition, C:P:SH |
1 : 1,9 : 3,7 | 1 : 2,4 : 4,3 |
Now it’s easy to calculate the number of components for the required volume of concrete solution.
Let’s assume that for the foundation for a garage in a country house, it is necessary to prepare 6.4 cubic meters of M300 concrete from M400 cement.
For one cube of solution you need to take:
- cement (Table 2) – 600 kg;
- sand (Table 3) – 1.9 x 600 = 1140 kg;
- crushed stone (Table 3) – 3.7 x 600 = 2220 kg;
- water (Table 1) – 300 (15 buckets of 20 l each).
To obtain the total amount of material, we multiply each result obtained by 6.4. The calculation is completed. Standards from the Internet and a calculator are all the tools for calculating the mixture.

Preparation of the mortar mixture:
To prepare masonry mortar for 1 kg. dry mixture sand concrete M-300 must be added 0.12-0.13 l. water, mix the resulting mixture until a homogeneous dough-like mass is formed. Next, you need to soak the prepared solution for 10 minutes, then mix again.
Preparing the base:
- The base to be treated must be strong, cleared of weak, loose and crumbling areas and slightly moistened.
- It is necessary to remove paint, oil and grease stains, dust, flaking elements and non-waterproof coatings from the surface.
- It is not recommended to apply the solution to a gypsum base
Execution of work:
- The base is divided by beacons and limiting slats, the correct installation is checked with a level. The maximum area of one pour is 20-25 m2, the layer thickness is 10-100 mm (when using conventional M300 mortar, the maximum thickness is up to 50 mm).
- Immediately after mixing with water, the resulting mixture is poured onto the floor in strips 30-100 cm wide, along the previously placed beacons; for better distribution of the leveling mixture over the surface, use a wide spatula or a steel ruler (rule).
- Note! During the work and for the next 3 days, there should be no drafts in the room, direct sunlight should be avoided, it is recommended to moisten the coating with water. Readiness for subsequent leveling and walking is 18 (36 hours - regular M300 mixture) hours.
- For laying ceramic tiles, the base is ready after 36 hours, operation under load after 7 days.
Carefully! The cement contained in the M-300 mixture can form an alkaline reaction when interacting with water. It is necessary to protect eyes and skin from contact with the solution. If the mixture gets into your eyes, rinse them with water and, if necessary, consult a doctor.
Mixture consumption:
The consumption of dry mixture M-300 with an application layer of 10 mm is 17-19 kg per 1 m²

Composition and proportions of concrete M250
The main points regarding the proportions and parameters of this type of solution are contained in GOST R 7473. They must be strictly observed, otherwise the finished product will not have the required qualities and will not cope well with its tasks.
The composition of the brand is largely traditional for all types of solutions:
Cement - the most commonly used cement grades are M400 and M500. If you are going to make concrete yourself, be sure to check the expiration dates of the cement. If it is expired, it will make the solution of poor quality. Filler - fine sand of classes 1 and 2 is used
It is very important to clean it after use. The sand should not contain any dirt, clay or other unnecessary impurities
Otherwise, the quality of the solution will deteriorate. Coarse aggregate - granite/limestone crushed stone or gravel is used as it. The last option has good qualities and a reasonable price. Water - used clean, without any additives or impurities. Additives - used to improve the quality of the material. They can increase frost and moisture resistance, resistance to external influences, etc.
Proportions for concrete production:
- 1 tsp cement;
- 2.1 parts sand;
- 3.9 hours of crushed stone.
For example, let's look at the solution recipe. Here is the amount of ingredients required for one cubic meter of concrete:
- 330 kg of cement;
- 740 kg of sand;
- 140 l of water;
- 1100 kg of crushed stone.
If you allow deviations in these parameters, the class of concrete will deteriorate and it may lose some of its properties. This is another reason why the calculations cannot be based on the maximum performance of concrete. Even with a slight deviation in the proportions or mass of components, its parameters are reduced, which can negatively affect the entire structure.
