Main characteristics
Polymer paint has many advantages; it is cheaper because it does not have solvents, which in liquid compositions act as carriers for film formation. The curing time of such compositions is reduced, since film formation occurs at high speed. The coating can be done in one layer, which distinguishes this composition from conventional paints, which require multi-layer application with repeated drying.
During the work, such complex operations as adjusting the viscosity parameter to the required value, as well as monitoring this value, are eliminated. Powder formulations are supplied ready-made, making them easy to apply. After reviewing the range of such products, you can choose one of 5,000 colors, textures and shades. After using the composition, spray equipment is easy to clean, since it is much easier to remove the powder than multiple layers of liquid paint.
Polymer paint creates a single-layer, rather thick coating, which allows saving due to its 100% dry matter content. When applied under pressure, powder mixtures lose up to 4% in volume, this is an advantage over liquid materials, which lose up to 40%. The resulting coatings have excellent physical and mechanical properties, and the surface is characterized by chemical resistance.
How to calculate acrylic paint consumption per m2
The manufacturer indicates paint consumption on the packaging. However, it is worth considering that the consumption rates are indicated for ideal conditions, a smooth surface and in a thin layer. In practice, the roughness and absorbency of the surface, as well as the method of application (roller or spray gun), are of great importance. It can be assumed that 5-15% more paint will be needed than what is written on the package.
Paint calculations are made after determining the area of the surface to be painted. Next, the area is divided by the standard flow rate. The result is the amount of material required for application in one layer. Paint consumption per 1 m2 can also be calculated using online calculators available on the Internet.
Main types of polymer paints
If you are interested in polymer paint, then you should familiarize yourself with the range of these products. Such materials can be polyester, epoxy, polyurethane or epoxy-polyester. The main advantage of epoxy paints is the excellent combination of physical, mechanical and electrical insulating qualities. Such coatings are characterized by high adhesion, characterized by chemical resistance and mechanical strength. The bases are resistant to acids and alkalis, fuel, oil, water, which allows the use of epoxy composition for internal and external protection of main pipelines.
If you plan to use epoxy polymer paints, you can use them to create a layer whose thickness can reach 500 microns. In this case, good hardness, high impact strength and elasticity will be observed over the entire surface. However, there are also disadvantages of the coating, which are expressed in limited weather resistance. In open areas, chalking and a tendency to yellowing may occur due to overheating.
The best manufacturers
On the construction market, the best range of white paint is offered by the following manufacturers:
- Slovenian.
- Finnish Tikkurila.
- Dulux company (Netherlands).
- Polish factory Sniezka.
- Dufa factory from Germany.
- Russian (trademarks “Texturol”, Parade, Krass).
This is not the entire list of factories and companies that produce the best paint and varnish products. But these are the main producers. Their paint is the purest white.
Working with white color is very interesting for both amateurs and professional designers. The white shade in the interior is multifaceted, beautiful and versatile. It creates an even atmosphere and brings a favorable mood.
But we must not forget about the disadvantages of such paint. Improperly organized work with white color can make a painted room boring and faceless. For the result of the work to be stunning, a serious approach followed by professional implementation is required!
Area of use of epoxy polymer paints
Epoxy polymer powder paint is used to produce hard coatings that are resistant to chemicals and solvents. Consumers of such powders are the fields of radio engineering and electrical engineering; in these areas, coatings replace many types of complex electrical insulation. Electrical cabinets, office fittings, medical equipment and household supplies can be coated with epoxy.
Area of use of polyester polymer paints
Similar compositions are used for finishing household items, garden, medical, metal, office furniture, sports equipment, as well as electrical equipment, etc. Polyesters are in great demand due to their unique decorative qualities. Modern technology for manufacturing powder paints has made it possible to expand the color range of coatings and achieve different textures.
Areas of use of polyester and polyurethane polymer paints
Polyester paint for polymer coatings is used for processing travel accessories, agricultural machinery, car wheels, as well as aluminum and steel profiles for door and window openings. Polyester compounds are versatile as they can be used for indoor and outdoor applications. As a result, it is possible to obtain a glossy surface, the gloss of which reaches 90%. As an alternative solution, you can choose a polyester blend, which allows you to create a matte or semi-matte surface.
Polyurethane paints based on a polymer are characterized by a stable shine and are characterized by water and weather resistance. They are highly resistant to mineral oils, fuels and solvents. Polyurethane paints are used to protect products that are subject to abrasive wear and friction. They can be applied to certain types of chemical equipment and containers intended for storing gaseous and liquid chemicals. Polyurethane paints can be used as a primer before using other powder paints such as polyacrylic or epoxy.
Painting technology
The room must be well ventilated , if possible with a through air flow. Respiratory organs are protected with a respirator, hands with gloves. Clothing should cover the skin; If you don’t have overalls, you can take old, worn things.
The set of tools used depends on the form of paint release. For liquid one-component compositions in plastic containers, you need a tray, brushes and a roller. For powder paint, you need to buy or rent a special spray tool.

Ask a Question
The method of surface preparation depends on its type. The previous coating is removed from the concrete wall and leveled with plaster or putty (if necessary, in several stages). Grease and fingerprints are removed from the metal product with a solvent and the welded parts are cleaned of varnish and dirt. If there was any coating on the item, it is removed. It is also important to clean the product from areas affected by corrosion. Wooden surfaces are treated with an antiseptic and primed.
Application
The paint is applied according to the directions on the package. Walls should be treated at above-zero temperatures, but not in the heat.
The second layer is applied after the first has dried.
Metal products are painted in one layer. It is better to do this in a special room protected from dust.
Polymerization
Powder paint polymerization chamber
This is the name of the process of heating a metal object coated with paint in a special chamber. The duration is about an hour, the temperature rises to 200 degrees. It is better if it grows slowly: this will help provide a more wear-resistant coating.
Purpose of polymer paint for metal
Polymer paint for metal contains a solvent, special additives, polystyrene, and pigment. This mixture is also called liquid plastic and is a solution of crushed polystyrene foam in solvent or toluene. Considering the polymer composition for metal, PS-160 can be cited as an example. This mixture is used for treating pipelines, protecting metal structures of swimming pools, covering metal floors, and also for painting load-bearing elements of buildings. As for pipelines, heating mains should also be included here. Metal floors can be covered on ships, inside production and warehouse premises. This polymer floor paint can protect surfaces that are constantly in contact with water.
Purpose and properties of acrylic polymer compositions
Acrylic polymer paints can be used for interior and exterior work on facades, as well as for repairing and painting metal roofs. It is recommended to apply a primer before applying this composition. Among the characteristics of these mixtures one can highlight a long service life, which reaches 20 years. It is impossible not to mention the possibility of obtaining a durable and durable coating, excellent resistance to high humidity, temperature changes and exposure to the sun. Among other things, these paints are heat and frost resistant. After application to the surface, they dry quite quickly, forming a thin, smooth and extremely durable protective film. During operation, it exhibits the qualities of resistance to chemicals and various cleaning mixtures. Acrylic paints are very easy to apply and do not require the use of expensive equipment. Acrylic polymer compositions have high adhesion to the base, they are environmentally friendly and harmless to human health.
Roller selection
To paint the ceiling area you need a roller. The appearance, dimensions of the handle, and the diameter of the drum depend on the volume, as well as the complexity of the work. Main preferences:
- for a wide coverage area, a wide drum. Moreover, the wider it is, the longer its handle will be;
- the average diameter of the drum (15-18 cm) will allow you to perform work without fatigue, since it is not very heavy;
- It is important to paint a multi-level area with a small roller. A maneuverable attribute will allow you to efficiently solve a difficult problem.
Please note: Drying time for acrylic paints
Painting products with a removable short-pile coat are easy to use. They provide economical consumption of the coloring composition. But it is better to refuse foam structures.
Polyurethane polymer paint for concrete
This coloring substance acts as the most resistant to the influence of negative factors. The surfaces are not affected by petroleum products, chemical compounds and solvents. Thanks to this characteristic, polyurethane paint can be used for painting garages, hangars, industrial premises and basements. After coating with this product, the surface acquires the qualities of protection from impacts and mechanical damage. The layer can be glossy or matte, and you will spend about 400 g per square meter. Before painting, the surface is treated with a primer, and then polyurethane paint is applied in 2 layers. The second of them should be applied only after the first has completely dried, which will happen in about a day.
Painting walls
Painting walls with acrylic paint is a task that does not require extensive professional training. You will need the simplest tools:
- brushes,
- paint roller,
- paint tray,
- masking tape.
If the farm has a spray gun, you can also use it. It is not necessary to purchase this device specifically for interior work.
Use adhesive paper tape to cover baseboards, door jambs, slopes, and joints with the ceiling. The finished water emulsion or diluted acrylic dispersion is thoroughly mixed with a construction mixer or drill with an appropriate attachment.
The paint is poured into a tray, and all “inconvenient” places are painted with a brush: corners, joints, areas behind pipes, around switches and sockets.
The coat of the roller is impregnated with the coloring composition, the excess is removed and painting begins from the top or from the middle, making movements in the vertical direction and down alternately or in a w-shape (see video). In this way, paint the entire surface.
After the first layer has dried completely, you can apply the second. Usually this is quite enough to obtain an even tone.
