The construction of any road requires the formation of a base of solid material and an even layer of roadway.
The base material, its soil layer, must be compacted as much as possible and covered with a working layer of solid material of a finer fraction (crushed stone road) or concrete, asphalt, asphalt-concrete mixture (motorway).
The work of leveling, compacting and compacting layers is carried out using a construction machine, defined as a road roller. The executive body of the unit is pneumatic wheels or rollers made of metal.
Torque force from the power plant is transmitted to the drive rollers (wheels), which ensures the movement of the machine. Changing the direction of movement ensures control of the driven roller (wheels).
General information about the road roller
A highway is more than just asphalt or concrete. It is a multi-layer cake, which includes sand, crushed stone, other non-metallic building materials, and asphalt concrete pavement. When laying them, they must be compacted. For this, special equipment is used. In particular, a construction skating rink - asphalt, road, soil.
A road roller is a specialized machine for compacting bulk soils, crushed stone, asphalt and asphalt concrete during the construction and repair of road surfaces. There are a sufficient number of brands and models in a wide price range on the road construction equipment market. In Russia and the CIS, both domestic and imported options are offered.
Rollers from Russian manufacturers are often preferred due to their relatively low initial cost. Taking into account depreciation charges (OKOF-2 code: 330.28.92.24), their operation is cheaper than imported ones, incl. due to the cheapness of spare parts.
What is the name of the roller machine?
An ice harvester (also a resurfacer or ice resurfacing machine) is used to restore ice to skating rinks. Before their invention, this was done by hand. The first resurfacer was invented by Frank Zamboni in 1949 in Paramount, California.

Additional equipment for road rollers
In addition to the main working parts, road rollers are equipped with additional devices. Asphalt paving rollers are equipped with:
- a system for wetting the rollers with water, which prevents particles of the compacted material from sticking to the surface of the drum;
- an edge former, which is a cutting disc whose purpose is to form a clean edge (trimming the edge) of the strip of asphalt being compacted.
Some manufacturers produce transport wheels for rollers. Their installation allows you to transport the skating rink from place to place using a towing vehicle.
For rollers with smooth rollers, additional tires are supplied for converting them into cam rollers.

Advantages and disadvantages of ground equipment
Any technique has its strengths and weaknesses. The advantages of the skating rink in question include:
- High performance.
- Installation of all-wheel drive system.
- Good maneuverability.
- Ergonomics of special equipment.
- Comfortable management and workplace, which is equipped in accordance with modern requirements for comfort.
The design allows for the use of additional equipment, which increases the weight of the asphalt paving rink. Additional equipment includes:
- cam bandage in two sections;
- bulldozer blade;
- removable diesel fuel heater.
It is possible to use other attachments depending on conditions and technical specifications.
The soil compactor of this modification is distinguished by good performance indicators and a relatively low cost of compacting a unit volume of soil.
Disadvantages include low speed and increased fuel consumption. The restoration process is possible in equipped areas and special tools.
Specifications
The main indicators of equipment are: the capabilities of the power unit, the size of the equipment and, most importantly, productivity.
- Power unit.
The rollers in question are equipped with a factory engine of domestic production: YaMZ-236. The power unit is cooled with water. Fuel consumption (diesel) is 24 liters per hour. Standard motor voltage: 24 V.
- Dimensions.
On equipment with hydrostatic transmission, rollers with a width of 2 thousand mm are installed. The width of the sealing strip does not exceed 2 thousand mm. The rollers themselves are within 1600 mm in diameter.
For road paving equipment, experts recommend using a proven option: tires in size 16.00-24.
In the factory version, the vehicle rides on two wheels of a pneumatic operating principle of 1480 mm. 6000 mm is the length of the skating rink. The width is 2400 mm. The entire structure, including the cabin, has a height of 3000 mm. The height of the equipment without indicators with a cabin is 2300 mm.
The distance between the axes of the rollers, the so-called base of the laying tire, is within 3250 mm. Vehicle clearance is within comfortable limits: 350 mm. Speed indicators:
- Operating speed 0-0.8 km/h.
- Transport speed indicators are the same: 0-0.8 km/h.
- Performance indicators.
The performance indicators for soil are 1200 m3 per hour. Structural weight within 12500 kg. The work uses one vibrating roller with a load of 35 thousand N/m.
The weight of the front module is 700 kg, and the rear modular design is 600 kg. Special equipment/equipment is supposed to use a hydraulic transmission. Hydraulics also control the parking brake.
The fuel tank holds 162 liters. The hydraulic system uses oil recommended by the manufacturer: MGE-46V. Analogs can be used: Tellus 46, Hyspin AWS 46.
As for roll angles: 150 (27%). Along the outer contour of the trail, the turning radius is within 7 meters.

The work is carried out to compact (depth indicators) 150-700 mm. Quantitative indicators of passes (soil-asphalt) from 3 to 12.
Design Features
Each manufacturer tries to surprise potential customers with the additional capabilities of the equipment they offer. The technique under study was no exception. The DU 85 roller, which weighs 1300 kg, was no exception. On the contrary, the skating rink has its own design features.

The manufacturing plant’s engineers offer a number of innovations that allow us to increase the productivity of equipment and expand its functionality. In particular:
- As for the drive for both rollers. This technical element makes it possible to reduce the shear of the compacted material, thereby providing improved climbing performance.
- The equipment in question is equipped with tires with wide tread. This gives the skating rink increased maneuverability.
- A fairly high ground clearance allows the equipment to move around the site relatively comfortably.
- For the convenience of the operator, a cabin with improved ergonomics of the control panel is installed. All levers and switches are accessible and within line of sight.
- For comfortable work in cold weather, a heater is installed in the cab.
- The maneuverability of the skating rink is ensured by the design with an articulated frame.
- The machine is turned using a hydraulic amplifier.
