Concrete garden lamp

Concrete lamps are the brainchild of modern art. Many European residents of loft-style apartments can boast of such interior items. And our compatriots, who love the “attic-factory” style, began to acquire designer items made of concrete.

  • Table lamp made of concrete and an old canister
  • We decorate the garden with concrete lamps
  • Adjustable Table Lamp: Initial Manufacturing Process

    This DIY pipe lamp is distinguished by the fact that it can be adjusted in reach and height.
    Many replacement parts are available to find at home, so it is also economical and also custom. Materials used:

    • Bicycle star.
    • A pair of metal pipes with a half-inch thread (length - 450 mm).
    • Flange.
    • Fitting.
    • Two elbows at 45 and 90 degrees.
    • Two ¾ copper tubes.
    • Socket.
    • Polymer bushing.
    • Electrical cable.

    The bicycle sprocket will serve as the base. Holes for the flange are drilled in its center, after which it is painted. Then an iron pipe is screwed into the flange. The upper part of the element is attached to the base of the lamp, and the second part with a larger diameter is installed in such a way that a sliding effect appears. This will allow the upper part of the structure to be folded down by moving the top tube.

    DIY concrete light using plastic bottles

    No less unique are concrete lamps made from two plastic bottles of different sizes.

    Consumables

    • Two plastic bottles of different sizes.
    • Light source.
    • Cartridge with cord.
    • Cement mixture.

    Tool

    • Electric drill with drills.
    • Self-tapping screws for wood.
    • Sharp knife.
    • Threaded tube.

    Style Features

    A home converted from a workshop should be quite simple and unpretentious. As a rule, the loft should look as if it had not been redesigned. High ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, open space and no interior walls are unique design elements.

    Light sources in the loft style are a wonderful art object, not devoid of a share of aesthetics, a genuine sense of beauty.

    To maintain an open feeling, the lighting here should do its job without getting in the way or cluttering the space. Knowing how to use it to enhance a space and ensure it harmonizes with the look and feel of the interior is a key factor in the aesthetic appeal of a loft.

    Bright lighting is given special attention in this style, which requires multidimensional space.

    The characteristic lighting here is the obligatory combination of its different light sources: general light with local lamps. This is also one of the zoning methods.

    Materials, colors and shapes of loft-style lamps depending on type

    The structures used for “attic” rooms are floor lamps, chandeliers, sconces, street lamps, and table lamps. The variety of models is represented by objects made of glass, stainless steel, plastic, with the inclusion of wood. To create lighting fixtures, elements of pipes, fasteners, gears, ropes, and wires are used.

    The colors of the products are represented by the actual materials used and are not flashy.

    Ceiling lamps in loft style

    Loft-style chandeliers, shown in photos on the Internet, amaze with their laconicism, functionality and soft diffused light.

    Ceiling pendant lights in the loft style do not look bright, rather elegantly simple

    Glass lampshades resemble soap bubbles and provide a lot of light

    An ordinary metal lampshade will not look pompous and shine in the eyes

    It is rare that only one lighting fixture is used; often several lamps are placed nearby

    The addition to the design of wooden elements does not contradict the loft canons

    Wall lamps and sconces in loft style

    Wall-mounted options involve achieving maximum comfort - it’s always a stone’s throw before turning on such lighting. Sconces are placed in the maximum access zone, and they are placed in functional areas and to emphasize decorative elements: mirrors, frames, photographs, posters.

    A water pipe that produces not a drop of water, but a drop of light

    Metal combines with brick, concrete, and stone

    What is appropriate here is not exquisite ornateness, but the originality of the entire structure. There are a lot of light bulbs, but the light is still not direct bright, but diffused

    Loft style lamps: not only on the wall, but also on the table

    Tables are used as a dining space, as coffee tables or as a work area. Such functionality in the interior can be easily emphasized with loft lamps.

    Two dim, uncovered light bulbs blend into the interior, making the loft look complete.

    Metal pipes, valves, tachometers - seemingly waste material, however, the designers managed to find a worthwhile use for it

    Assembling such a lamp yourself will be easy and interesting.

    The design could not be simpler, and the mood is created by the most suitable

    For bedroom lighting, decor that includes a textile lampshade in soft colors is allowed

    Floor designs: loft-style floor lamps

    Floor lamps also fit into the mood of the loft. Tall structures most often look like a spotlight or spotlight and can stand on a tripod or metal pole.

    Spotlights also do not produce bright light, distributing even illumination around, aimed at a wall, floor, or a specific area

    Even an ordinary pipe looks different if light bulbs hang on it in a cluster

    The metal floor lamp is in harmony with the brick walls and does not look bulky

    Any light source should not look particularly elegant and luxurious; simple, but at the same time intricate designs look much more interesting.

    Loft style lamps: street in the house

    Paradoxically, street lighting makes the “attic” room more comfortable. But such harmony in the interior of a room can only be achieved by achieving good compatibility between the material and the design of the model.

    The photo shows a model of a street lamp in the loft style

    The street lamp does not produce a very bright light, despite its size, but it perfectly creates the atmosphere of city streets

    Street lighting can be both floor and wall-mounted: stands, sconces, wall-mounted options.

    Do-it-yourself concrete light using a package

    Before you start making a lighting fixture for a cement structure, you should first prepare for this event - collect all the necessary consumables and tools.

    To make a concrete lamp you will need the following materials:

    • A cardboard milk bag (the larger the illuminator needed, the larger the bag should be).
    • A plastic bottle for placing a light source (light bulb).
    • Dry concrete mixture.

    Lamp designs, choose the model you like

    Such products will also fit perfectly into the landscape of any personal plot, giving it lighting and decorating it with their whimsical shapes. The great thing about concrete products is not only that you can create the most unimaginable shapes from it, but also that they will delight the eye for decades.

    Concrete also has the excellent property of good workability. Anyone, if desired, armed with simple materials and a riot of imagination, can create a unique project worthy of modern exhibitions. In our publication, we have collected simple and interesting ideas for DIY concrete lamps.

    Concrete is a unique material. You can sculpt anything from it, apply an interesting texture, or sand it to a shine and paint it. It all depends on imagination and preference.

    What is needed for production

    To make a concrete lamp with your own hands, you do not need special knowledge, skills or tools. You can use various containers and bottles as a form; a minimum of equipment is needed to mix the solution, and the process itself is quite simple and quick.

    What you will need when creating a concrete lamp with your own hands:

    • High-strength cement-sand mixture (you can buy it ready-made in dry form, to which you just need to add water according to the instructions).
    • Accessories and small items - cord, threaded tube, wood screws.
    • Tool – drill, knife.
    • Forms for the lamp - plastic bottles of different sizes or bowls, various containers.
    • Lamp socket.

    The most important thing is to choose and prepare the mold correctly, into which you then need to pour concrete and allow it to harden. The quality of the form and its compliance with the desired result will determine what kind of concrete lamp you will get.

    Using glass to create lamps

    You can hang a composition of several empty liquor bottles on the ceiling. Three-liter jars can be hung by metal chains. Glassware is also suitable as a lampshade. A lamp made from many glass fragments can imitate a crystal chandelier. Broken glass objects find a new purpose in the form of an original lighting fixture. Glasses and wine glasses make beautiful table lamps. Various glass boxes, glass from old wall sconces, headlights, and interior doors may come in handy. A homemade glass chandelier can be painted with watercolor or stained glass paints. You will get beautiful stained glass windows. To create pendant lamps, craftsmen use a variety of decorative containers from oils and perfumes. Unlike wood and paper, glass has high fire safety.

    Lighting fixtures made from wine bottles and wood

    The list of necessary equipment includes wire cutters, screwdrivers, screws, a glass cutter, silicone, a rag or brush, stain, pine boards, hooks, a chain, ten light bulbs, wiring, and wine bottles. The first step is to process the containers. Labels and remaining glue are removed from the bottles. Using a glass cutter, you need to remove the bottom of each bottle: it rests at a height of 1-2 cm, and the bottle rotates around its axis. The cracks must be tapped with a hammer until the bottom falls off. After this, the electrical wires are placed in bottles and connected to the cartridges. Light bulbs are screwed into them. Now you need to prepare the boards. In the lower, larger one, holes are drilled for necks and wires. The top one will collect them in one bun. Hooks for chains are screwed into the bottom board, which will hold the structure. For the kitchen, you can make a table lamp with a bottle base and a wooden shade.

    Using old cans to create lamps

    Old jars can find a new purpose. Lamps can be created using threads, electrical wires, and handles for cans. Containers must be equipped with handles. They will need to be tied with threads attached to a pre-prepared iron frame. Electrical wires with sockets and light bulbs are lowered into the jars - the chandelier is ready. You can make an option for the dacha - threads are tied around tree branches, and candles or small lanterns are placed inside the jars. Containers wrapped in multi-colored threads or decorated with patterned napkins look beautiful. The inside of the cans can be painted white, and while it is still wet, apply a pattern in the form of chaotic lines. Some people paint the outside of the container with different paints, and paint an image on top using glitter shadows. Banks can also be lined with small broken glass.

    We create a lamp on our own

    Let's start making a concrete lamp. Our instructions describe only the principle of work, and you can take whatever forms you like.

    Classic concrete lamp

    Concrete lamp in the kitchen interior

    To create such a concrete lamp we will need:

    • A lampshade from IKEA was used as a shape; you can use absolutely any shape for yourself. But keep in mind that, most likely, after filling it will not be suitable for anything, and you will have to throw it away.
    • Special cement mixture for modeling. But in the vast expanses of the post-Soviet space it is difficult to find, so you can take ordinary cement and fine sand. And the price for a homemade solution is much lower than for a special cement modeling mixture. If desired, you can add a plasticizer for plasticity and pigment.
    • Polyethylene film.
    • Cartridge.
    • Emery or emery stone. But, it’s best to get a hand-held grinder with a disc for concrete.
    • Metal cap from a chandelier.
    • Transparent construction adhesive or liquid glass.
    • A screwdriver and a pair of screws.

    The production of a lamp is conventionally divided into the following stages of work:

    1. We clean the future concrete formwork from dust and dirt.
    2. Preparing the concrete mixture. The approximate proportions of cement and sand are 1:3. The amount of water with a plasticizer (or without it) should be such that the mixture has the consistency as in the photo.

    Attention! Wear gloves when performing all concrete work. It is best if they are complemented by a set of a respirator and safety glasses. Concrete dries out the skin, and cement dust is not removed from the lungs.

    Consistency of working mixture

    1. Carefully and evenly apply the resulting solution to the inside of the formwork.

    Applying concrete to the ceiling

    1. Now you need to dry the concrete thoroughly. To do this, cover the mold tightly with polyethylene, and after a day you can try to remove the formwork. If the concrete doesn't come out well, leave it for another couple of hours and try again.

    Drying the concrete ceiling

    Stripping the product

    1. Using sanding, bring the resulting lamp to a neat state.

    Concrete grinding

    1. Let's put the lampshade aside and move on to the second part of the lamp. We adjust the metal part of the chandelier to the resulting concrete product and install the socket into it. If the thought arises of leaving one cartridge, drive it away. The light bulb socket simply won't support the weight of a concrete lampshade.

    Mounting structure of the luminaire

    1. We insert the resulting mounting and lighting system into the lampshade, mount everything on the ceiling and enjoy the result.

    Ready lamp

    Attention! If you do not have a suitable shape for the lampshade, you can create it yourself from thin plastic. It is coated on all sides with cement paste (cement + water), dries and a finished lamp is obtained.

    The video in this article will tell you in detail how to make such a lamp yourself.

    Ball-shaped lamp

    In the image and likeness of the previous master class, you can make a lamp of an interesting round shape. A dense balloon will act as formwork.

    It just needs to be coated with cement mortar, but not in a thick and continuous layer. So the ball simply won’t support the weight of the concrete. We wait until the layer dries, pierce the ball, insert the lampshade and admire the wonderful pendant lamps.

    How to make a Loft style lamp with your own hands

    Store-bought fixtures can be a little boring because they are often designed for neutral interiors rather than a modern loft. Therefore, you can try to create a loft-style lamp with your own hands.

    Chandeliers may well be red or aquamarine; the brighter the better, since this style does not accept pastel colors.

    From the plate

    This is usually a pendant lamp, with a metal plate (plate), and an Edison lamp.

    This way you can especially emphasize the exclusivity of your space.

    What you will need:

    • round deep plate;
    • small melamine bowl;
    • tin plate;
    • electrical cord;
    • lamp socket;
    • dye;
    • electric drill;
    • small screwdrivers;
    • pliers;
    • hacksaw;
    • brush.

    Instructions:

    1. Measure the center of the base in the plate and mark it. Using a power drill, drill a hole large enough to accommodate the cord of your chosen pendant light.
    2. Paint the outside and inside of the plate with paint.
    3. To install the electrical system, remove the sleeve using a small screwdriver, thread the thread through the hole formed in the middle of the bowl, and attach the cable clamp. Assemble the socket and screw in the light bulb.
    4. Mount the lamp in the chosen location.

    Go beyond ordinary interiors and give free rein to self-expression.

    On a chain

    Here you will need the following materials:

    • Set of light bulbs.
    • Chain.
    • Pliers.
    • Screwdriver.

    Instructions:

    1. Take the lamp cord and find the 2 metal prongs on the end of the wire. The teeth will go through the top of the lamp kit cover.
    2. Insert the lamp cord through the top of the light fixture. Attach the lamp cord to the part that comes off the lamp base.
    3. Bend the wires at the end of the lamp cord. Join them.
    4. Slide the black switch up inside the light fixture base that will hold the light bulb.
    5. Attach the lamp base to the cover.
    6. Connect the chain. Here you can use your pliers to separate the chain links. Also make sure your lamp is balanced.

    The rule for small chandeliers in the loft style is that there should be a lot of them at once to provide the necessary lighting that is required for this interior.

    Brass chandelier

    What you will need:

    • 1 brass loop;
    • 5 brass tubes 12 cm each;
    • 5 brass tubes 20 cm;
    • 1 brass pipe 45 cm;
    • sockets;
    • 5 adjustable swivel brass hinges;
    • 1.5 m wired twisted cord;
    • 4.5 m single-core white wire;
    • 4.5 m single-core black wire;
    • wire stripping;
    • 1 roll of electrical tape;
    • screwdriver.

    This style implies industrialism, a slight “unfinished” space, so chandeliers are made from pipes, from all sorts of flexible parts reminiscent of plumbing elements.

    Instructions:

    Unscrew the back of the socket from the ceramic body using the screws located inside the hole of the socket. Cut half a meter of length from both the black and white wires. Use a wire stripper to remove about 0.5 cm of the plastic sheathing from the ends of each wire. Twist the bare ends of the wire to prevent fraying and bend them to form a hook. Be sure to always attach the black wire to the gold screw and the white wire to the silver screw. Hook each wire around the base of each screw and tighten. Reattach the socket by threading the wires through the hole in the top. Repeat this process for all five sockets. Assemble the brass bracket by screwing it using a 25cm pipe, a 12cm pipe and a brass swivel. Then screw the socket into place, threading the wires all the way to the 25cm end of the pipe. Repeat this process for all five brackets. Prepare the wire. Slide the fabric covering off the end of the wire and secure it with electrical tape. Strip both wires about 1.5 cm from the ends. Join the wires. Twist together the small white wires in the cluster body with the larger white fabric wire. Secure with a twist to the wire connector. Repeat the process with the black wires

    Carefully push the wires inside the cluster housing and replace the cover. Pass the fabric wire through the hole in the top

    Thread the fabric wire through the remaining 45cm brass pipe and screw it to the top of the cluster body. Screw the copper loop to the top of the 45cm pipe.

    Chandeliers in this style should not contain exquisite decorative elements, excessive pomp and pretense of luxury.

    Table lamp made of concrete and an old canister

    Original table lamp

    To make such a miracle, you need to prepare a clean small plastic bottle with a handle, a cartridge with a wire and sand concrete in a ratio of 1:3. Just don’t make the concrete too thick, it won’t form properly in this state. It is better to add a plasticizer for better plasticity.

    Before molding, make a hole in the bottle for the wire, as shown in the photo. Thread it together with the chuck and carefully form the concrete. Here the wire goes through the handle of the canister. To remove the formwork, cut the plastic canister and carefully pull out the resulting lamp. If desired, wear a matching lampshade.

    Stylish interior design ideas

    So, it remains to find out which lamps are suitable for specific rooms: kitchen, bedroom, hallway and living room

    If up to this point we focused on a large room - a studio, now we are concretizing the information for an ordinary apartment or a house divided by partitions

    What can be used in loft lighting for the kitchen:

    • Chandeliers with metal shades hanging over the table on a tubular rod. This may be one or more lamps at the same or different levels. The shape can also be different. And it will look very original.
    • Instead of chandeliers, you can install buses with 2-3 lamps directed in different directions.
    • Instead of ceiling lighting, use wall lighting in any way. Moreover, the lamps do not have to be large. A “picture” of metal elements can be intertwined with LED lights along the entire wall area next to the table.

    What is not suitable for the kitchen:

    • Floor lamps.
    • Table lamps with floral lampshade.
    • Wall lamps – candelabra.

    Bedroom lighting:

    • Use pendant ceiling lamps with long, multi-level cords. Since the bedroom is a relaxation room, take care of the lampshades. The light should not be bright.
    • Make a wall sconce from untreated wood. This will dim the light and highlight your style.
    • Instead of a sconce, hang a large horizontal photograph or painting or print. Pass the LED strip along the contour.
    • Use an Edison lamp as a table lamp. It will be appropriate.
    • It is possible to use glass shades, but dark, plain glass.
    • The use of floor lamps with dim lighting is appropriate and permitted.

    Hallway lamps can hang from the ceiling, be attached to walls, or be floor mounted:

    • If the hallway is small, enlarge it visually with spots along the entire perimeter of the ceiling. Direct some of them to the floor, the other part to the walls.
    • Attach wall lamps with ribbed shades above the mirror, but not higher than 2 meters. Otherwise, your reflection will not make you happy.
    • In a large hallway, place a matching lamp next to the loft chair. Stretch LED strips into metal mesh tubes about 2 m long. Place the tubes in a large floor vase that matches the style (no bottom). Lead the wire through the base of the vase to the outlet. In the evening you will be greeted by a futuristic painting.

    To design a living room, designers recommend using the principle of accentuation:

    • All types of lamps are appropriate: ceiling, wall, floor, table.
    • Any shapes and devices are applicable: tires and spiders, chandeliers and single spots around the perimeter.
    • If your apartment is two-tiered, then install the light for the lower tier in the jumper between the tiers.
    • Place a floor lamp for reading next to a sofa or armchair. If it has the role of central lighting, place it in such a way that it does not blind the eyes.
    • Instead of a floor lamp, hanging lamps with large shades on a long metal leg will look great above the sofa.
    • For the living room, an excellent option would be to use small lamps located along the walls above the floor. Such lighting will show the size of the room and create a cozy atmosphere.
    • Use multi-level lighting to showcase your living room in all its beauty.

    Special mention should be made about street lamps in the loft style. They are used for lighting and aesthetics of the local area. Such lamps can be installed in front of the porch, along the paths, on the gates and walls of the house, in the gazebo.

    Made of cast iron, bronze, copper using forging or welding, the lanterns will be a real decoration of your site. Moreover, this is the case when you can supply electricity or use solar-powered lamps, but decorate them accordingly.

    Wall lamps can be decorated with springs, chains, and shades. In short, there are many options.

    You can learn how to make an original loft-style lamp with your own hands from the video below.

    DIY concrete lamps

    Recently, concrete has become a popular and fashionable addition to the interior. As a decorative element, it entered the design with the loft style in the 50s of the last century. Today, tables, dishes, chairs, furniture facades, sinks and much more can be made from concrete. In this article we will tell you how to make a table lamp from concrete with your own hands.

    What is concrete?

    Concrete is an environmentally friendly product that can be recycled and reused. The recipe for making concrete is quite simple. All you need is cement, crushed stone, sand and water. The exact ratio of all components of the solution is very important, since the strength of future products depends on this. The main component of a concrete mixture is cement. When choosing its brand, you should determine the level of load and the impact of external destructive factors.

    Photo: DIY concrete lamp

    Pay attention to the water you will add to the concrete mixture. If it contains components that disrupt the structure of concrete, it is better to discard it. River or lake water is ideal. Speaking of proportions, you can see them on the back of the package. Remember that this ratio is quite arbitrary, so without precise calculations you may get an unexpected result.

    DIY concrete lamps in loft style at home

    To create a concrete lamp with your own hands at home, it is best to use decorative concrete. This concrete contains natural ingredients, so it is safe for health. In addition, decorative concrete allows you to imitate various coatings: wood, stone, decorative tiles, brick and much more.

    No matter what type of concrete you use, it is recommended to sift it before mixing. It is important to use a construction mask that will protect the respiratory tract from harmful dust.

    What do you need to make a loft lamp with your own hands?

    Concrete is perfect for realizing creative ideas. Despite the coldness of the material, such products bring comfort, warmth and will complement any interior style. Concrete can also be combined with other materials. When making a concrete lamp, you can give it any color using special dyes for concrete.

    The main advantage of concrete is its naturalness and environmental friendliness. You can easily make it yourself without using any special materials, tools or accessories.

    How to make a table lamp with your own hands? You will need:

    • durable cement-sand mixture;
    • drill;
    • cord;
    • lamp socket;
    • threaded tube;
    • knife;
    • two plastic bottles of different sizes;
    • wood screws.

    The first thing to do is prepare the bottles. To do this, cut the bottom and drill holes in the bottle caps. The hole must be large enough to allow the threaded tube to be inserted. Then insert the tube into the resulting holes and secure its position with nuts. Screw the resulting structure onto bottles. Use self-tapping screws to stabilize bottles. In this way, a form for a concrete lamp is prepared.

    Now you can start mixing the concrete. The main thing is not to overdo it with water. The mixture should resemble cookie dough. Mix it thoroughly so that every grain of the mixture is moist. Remember that all concrete work must be done with gloves, as concrete dries out the skin and concrete dust is not removed from the lungs.

    Lay out the resulting concrete into a mold. Use a large spoon to fill the pan. Shake and squeeze the bottle a little after each spoonful to ensure the mixture is evenly distributed. Shake well at the end. This will help remove any excess bubbles.

    Be sure to immediately wash the container in which you mixed the concrete. Otherwise, it will set quickly and will be extremely difficult to remove.

    After a couple of days, as soon as the concrete has hardened, you can cut off the plastic bottles with a knife and remove the screws. Since the concrete will have a rough shape, it is best to sand its surface with 120-grit sandpaper.

    The last step is to connect the cord through a metal tube to the socket and switch. Make sure that the lamp is well secured and that the fixtures can support the significant weight of the concrete.

    Ordinary concrete, which has an unsightly gray color, is not particularly beautiful. Therefore, it is recommended to use decorative concrete - a material that combines low cost of components, ease of manufacture, aesthetic appearance and increased strength.

    Concrete color

    A concrete structure does not have to be gray and dull. Thanks to modern technologies, mineral pigments and metal oxides, you can give concrete products any shade. The dyes are durable and will not lose their tone during use.

    The color of concrete can be changed by various methods. You can apply a layer of paint to the finished product or add coloring additives at the stage of mixing the components.

    The main features of the loft style

    It is easy to determine that in front of a person is a room decorated in this style.

    Just pay attention to some signs

    1. The room should have a lot of free space, and there are usually minimal partitions in it. In general, only the toilet and bathroom can be separated in the apartment. That is why the loft style is often used in studio apartments, where even the sleeping area is located in a common area.
    2. The windows should be large and preferably from floor to ceiling. This is the main source of light in the room. Moreover, curtains are used extremely rarely.
    3. The presence of various beams in the ceiling area is welcome, the ventilation does not need to be closed, and iron fittings add charm, but do not spoil the appearance of the room.
    4. You usually cannot see wallpaper or other decorative material on the walls in a loft-style room. Brickwork or concrete is often imitated or left completely as is. Also, plywood, metal, etc. can be used for finishing. It’s funny, but to achieve the desired effect, sometimes you sometimes have to purchase quite expensive materials.
    5. Option for the floor - concrete, board or marble. No complex designs or anything pretentious or extravagant.

    And the main highlight of the loft is the furniture. It may be somewhat unsightly in appearance, made of simple materials, and does not have any decorations or monograms. Its charm lies in its simplicity and functionality. At the time when the loft was born, everyone had no time for luxury.

    Loft bedroom

    To make loft furniture, you can use simple boards, iron pipes and some modern materials. It is best if they have a somewhat aged look.

    Loft style kitchen

    Although, despite the apparent simplicity, to decorate a room in a loft style you need to have a certain taste. In general, with a successful combination of circumstances, a loft can harmoniously combine the incongruous. For example, a brightly colored modern sofa and an antique chest of drawers. So this style can be very, very different.

    There are several loft style trends

    Table. Loft style directions.

    Direction Characteristic

    Bohemian

    This option is chosen by artists and poets, in a word, creators of beauty. Moreover, they can use the style not only at home, but also when organizing their own personal exhibition or show. Here the walls and ceilings are left almost without decoration, but other interior items or decorations are selected with a special sense of beauty. The walls may be decorated with paintings, there may be musical instruments, some sculptures, etc. in the room.

    Glamor

    This is a rather gentle loft, in which the same iron beams and beautiful chandeliers or sofas in the Baroque style can be perfectly combined

    Here, much attention will be paid to lighting and directly to chandeliers and shades. The colors used for decoration will be gentle and pleasant (for example, it could be lilac).

    Industrial

    This is the most popular loft option, as it is the simplest and does not require anything special from the designer

    It is enough to create the appearance of a moderately lived-in space. Furniture made by yourself is ideal for this type of loft. Even if it is a little unsuccessful, it will look no worse in almost industrial conditions than furniture from a store. Here any decorations are unnecessary.

    Bedroom in loft style

    Concrete color

    To make your lamp not gray, but some other shade, you can use different methods. Thus, pigments of mineral origin and those created on the basis of metal oxides are often introduced into a liquid solution. They are durable, do not fade, do not wear out, as they paint the entire monolith, and not just its surface.

    Also, a layer of paint can be applied to a finished product - there are many paints for concrete on the market today, with different advantages and disadvantages, features, a large or minimal selection of shades. The most important thing you need to pay attention to when choosing a paint is its safety: the substance should not be toxic, it is advisable to be completely odorless, able to withstand temperature changes and humidity.

    You can paint the lampshade with bulk pigments and universal colors. The colors are simply dripped onto the walls of the mold, then smeared in any convenient way. The layer should be thin but rich, after which concrete is poured on top and allowed to harden.

    How to make a frameless lampshade from threads

    It is quite possible to prepare a lampshade for a lamp or chandelier, even if there is no frame. The shape can be cylindrical, rectangular or round.

    For a round product you need:

    • Balloon;
    • Cotton threads or twine;
    • PVA glue with a brush;
    • Scissors.

    Step by step process:

    • Inflate the ball to the required size and secure with thread.
    • Cover the inflated surface generously with glue using a brush.
    • Gradually wind the thread from the ball around the ball in different directions, leaving room for the light bulb socket. Lubricate with glue periodically. A ball of thread is formed. Repeat the adhesive coating on top.
    • Leave for 1 day and wait for the product to dry completely.
    • Pierce the ball and easily remove it from the thread structure. In this case, the shape should be preserved.
    • Now you can try on the lampshade. Decorate as desired with beads, flowers, sequins.

    Step-by-step instructions for making a lighting fixture

    Step 1

    It is necessary to release the milk carton and trim its folded edges.

    Step 2

    Next, a plastic bottle is inserted into the box and a through hole is drilled through them. To make this easier, it is recommended to first make small holes in these places using a nail or knife.

    Step 3

    It is necessary to insert a bolt into the resulting hole and secure it securely.

    Important! Concrete luminaires must have a sufficiently sealed housing. It should not allow moisture to pass through. Therefore, the areas where the package meets the bolt must be sealed with sealant.

    Step 4

    Prepare the cement mixture in accordance with the instructions from the material manufacturer. In this case, the main thing is not to add excess water. The finished solution should resemble cookie dough. In this case, the mixture must be thoroughly mixed so that there is not a single dry grain.

    Step 5

    The free space between the bottle and the bag is filled with concrete mixture (it must be pressed well - there should be no hollow areas). To get rid of the formed air bubbles, the workpiece must be thoroughly shaken.

    Important! Immediately wash the container in which the cement mixture was prepared, otherwise, when it sets, it will be quite difficult to remove it.

    Step 6

    You need to give the product time to dry - the concrete should set well, that is, all the moisture should come out of it. This may take approximately two days. After this, the milk carton is removed and the bolt is unscrewed.

    Step 7

    In the resulting concrete blank for the illuminator, you need to drill holes of the same or different diameters.

    Step 8

    A light bulb is placed inside the case, wiring is made, and a connection is made to the switch.

    This unique concrete lighting fixture is ready for use!

    Principles for implementing a “loft” on a balcony

    Strictly speaking, the implementation of a classic loft requires a fairly large space, which does not quite correspond to the idea of standard apartments, and especially balconies and loggias. Often designers use only the main components of the “loft”, adding and diluting it with other style directions. This way even a small room can be given uniqueness.

    1. Window. They should be large to ensure maximum access to sunlight and visually expand the balcony space. If possible, install panoramic windows. For frames, it is better to choose wood in brown tones rather than plastic.
    1. Walls. A brick wall is an indispensable and characteristic feature of the loft style. To imitate it on the balcony, use decorative overlays or wallpaper. It is better to decorate only one wall of the balcony in this way. Paint the rest in light shades: beige, cream, gray. One of the walls or a small section of it can be painted in a bright color, which should harmonize and echo the shades of the furniture. Firstly, this technique is also a kind of zoning that the industrial style requires. Secondly, this way you can visually expand the space or adjust its proportions.
    1. Floor. Concrete floors will add the necessary coldness and industrialism to the overall appearance of the balcony. To cover the floor, you can also use any other finishing materials - tiles, laminate, porcelain stoneware - like concrete, aged wood, natural stone. You need to take care of the underfloor heating system or install radiators.
    1. Ceilings. The simplest solution is to leave the concrete covering. Plastic panels with its imitation are also widely used. A popular solution would be to use materials with the texture of unpainted boards. Massive floor beams will help add authenticity to the interior.

    Furniture. A classic “loft” requires a minimum of upholstered furniture. But it should be bright colors and unusual shapes

    Initially, this technique was used to divert attention from unfinished walls. Now it is an integral attribute of the interior

    You shouldn’t clutter up an already small space. It is enough to choose original designer chairs, open bookcases and shelving for the balcony. Furniture should be a bright spot and immediately attract the eye

    1. Accessories. Elements and attributes of industrial style must be present - pipes, open ventilation systems, or their imitation. Shelves of simple shape and design, made of metal and wood, are a stylish “loft” solution. If you have creativity and minimal practical skills, you can make them yourself from available materials, for example, from the remains of water pipes and other garage trash.
    1. Textile. Historically, the use of bright textile materials was another way to give an industrial space a more or less residential look and disguise unsightly walls. But its quantity should be small. These are mainly sofa cushions, upholstery of upholstered furniture, blankets. They use fabrics of bright and rich colors (blue, green, orange, red), plain or with large patterns. Ordinary curtains, tulle, heavy classic curtains are unacceptable. Blinds or Roman shades are installed on the windows. A rough floor can be complemented with a bright carpet or mat.
    2. Lighting. The right lamps will help create the right mood. For a “loft” on a balcony, soffits and lamps on rods, which are used to decorate photo studios and exhibition pavilions, as well as wall lamps in the shape of street lamps, are suitable.
    3. Decor. The decorative elements of the loft style are very unusual things - flags, information signs, road signs, posters. Classic paintings are inappropriate in this case. It is permissible to complement the interior with black and white graphics, abstract images, and wall graffiti. The presence of fresh flowers greatly enlivens the austere interior.

    Lamps made of metal pipes and tubes in loft style

    Non-functioning water pipes with taps can be mounted into a single structure, equipped with light bulbs and thus create a stylish and useful thing. It is better to place it on the wall. This is a very popular finishing element in the loft style. Lamps in the steampunk style are created from large and small pipes. These are complex designs; they cannot be made without special training. However, it is possible to design a small robot with a “head” shaped like a light bulb. Beautiful ceiling chandeliers are made from pipes. In addition, there are various models of lamps made of metal pipes. The material often used is brass. Chandeliers are created in the form of compositions from several tubes. Pipes, as a rule, are made in one piece, but lamps with various patterns and openings are also produced. They are not inferior in popularity to lamps in the loft style.

    Chandelier made of brass tubes

    You can make a beautiful product in the form of diamond faces. In addition to the pipes themselves, you will need sandpaper, a jigsaw, twine or wire, and gloves. To create an original chandelier you will need 20 pipes: 10 short (6 cm), 5 medium (12 cm) and the same number long (25 cm). You need to find several long pieces, mark them and cut them with a jigsaw. After this, you need to start sanding with sandpaper so that the edges of the tubes are perfectly smooth. Then the fragments are collected onto thick wire or twine. First, horizontal rows are created: the bottom of five short ones and the middle one of the same number of medium tubes. Then they are connected by five more short tubes. The upper part of the structure is made of five long fragments that need to be combined with the already prepared part. Long pipes do not come together completely; the cartridge must be secured in this place.

    Lamps made from plumbing pipes

    It is necessary to prepare such devices as an electrical cable, electrical tape, adhesive tape, various screwdrivers, two-core wire, cartridges, hinges, fittings that match the parameters of the pipes. One of the tubes should be larger - it will serve as an attachment to the ceiling. The assembly process is quite complex. You need to create a diagram on paper, and only then get down to business. At this stage, the design configuration is determined. The splitters must be connected correctly. All parts of the structure being prepared can be polished and painted. It is better to give preference to white, red, gold and black colors. You need to wait about a day for everything to dry completely. After this, all the pipes are assembled together. Light bulbs are screwed onto them. The last stage is connection. Since the scheme is complex, it is better to invite a specialist.

    Concrete garden lamp

    Concrete lighting fixtures for the garden look very good.
    They not only fulfill their main purpose, but also perfectly decorate the space. You can make them quite easily with your own hands, just follow the instructions below. The first step is to make the formwork from a 1.2 cm thick plywood sheet. It is important to design the form so that it can be easily disassembled at the end. It is recommended to open the components of the mold with varnish. This will help in the future to separate it from the hardened concrete without damage. If you repeatedly open the formwork with varnish, the finished concrete lanterns will acquire a corresponding shimmering shine.

    At the second stage, it is important to carefully consider the wiring method. Two versions are offered:

    1. Use corrugated plastic pipe as internal formwork.
    2. Making a wire mold from pieces of foam.

    The second method is more acceptable, since the weight of the lantern is reduced and cement is saved. You can connect the foam together with a special glue. After the concrete hardens, the material is easily separated. If pieces remain in hard-to-reach places, there is always the option of using acetone. As a solvent, it easily corrodes foam.

    Formwork for a lamp made from a milk carton.

    At the third stage, the internal formwork is created. For its manufacture, plywood or cardboard is used. It is important that the wall thickness is more than 2.5 cm. It is recommended to use a trapezoid as a shape. This formwork is easier to remove, especially if you pre-treat the walls with oil. Foam grooves for the wire are laid in the opening.

    The cement mixture can be prepared from a ready-made dry mixture, but it is also possible to prepare the composition yourself. For the second method, it is recommended to use M500 cement in a ratio of 1:3 to sand. Gravel or granite chips are used as an additive. One part of this filler is enough. Add water until the mixture is neither too dry nor too wet, with the consistency of cookie dough. This will be the fourth stage.

    At the fifth stage, the formwork is filled with the finished mixture. To do this, cement is first placed in hard-to-reach places so that the edges of the lamp are even and smooth. Then the rest of the formwork is filled. To do this, it is recommended to use a vibrating grinder, with which the mixture fits more tightly into the mold.

    To prevent water from escaping from the concrete and for it to gain strength, after pouring and compacting it must be covered with plastic film. The future lamp is left in this form for at least three days. However, it is recommended to wait longer for the cement to become sufficiently strong. After the holding time has expired, the formwork is removed, the finished surface is sanded and the light bulb is connected.

    Scope and features of concrete lamps

    Artificial lighting is not just a way to make our lives more comfortable and safe. It plays an important role in the aesthetic perception of space, and therefore is actively used by designers when decorating interiors and various areas.

    It is difficult to imagine that such a rough material as concrete can decorate a living room, bring a special style and even comfort to it. It is even more difficult to combine it with the task of decorative lighting. We will try to dispel your doubts.

    Where are concrete lamps used?

    The first thing that comes to mind is landscape design and industrial premises. This brutal material looks in its place there.

    Indeed, lamps built into concrete are often used to design park paths, swimming pools, street staircases, and suburban areas. Here are just a few examples:

    But recently, these original products have also found application in the interior design of residential buildings, offices and salons, decorated in styles such as loft, hi-tech, modern, minimalism and even country. It all depends on the shape, quality of concrete processing and its combination with other materials.

    Moreover, they can be very different from built-in and hanging to wall and tabletop:

    Pendant lamps usually have deliberately simple shapes. Due to their considerable weight, they are usually produced in the form of single pendants for one lamp, but there are exceptions.

    Luminaires built into concrete walls can also be used inside buildings. But there is another type of them - wall sconces. They require a solid base for their installation, as they also have a decent weight.

    For floor and table lamps, their large mass turns out to be a big plus: it gives them high stability. Therefore, any size and the most bizarre shapes are possible here. As well as combinations with other materials.

    We make a concrete lamp at home

    Design ideas continue to amaze even now, when it is difficult to surprise humanity with something new. Concrete is used in the construction of houses, multi-story buildings, walls and much more. What if we suggest you use concrete for other purposes and make an original designer lamp out of it?

    We will find out together how to do this and how such a lamp will look right now, but before work we suggest watching the author’s video, which, although in English, is quite understandable.

    So, we will need: - two plastic bottles; - concrete mixture; - wood screws; - 3/8 inch bolt; - nuts - light bulb socket with wire; - drill; - drill.

    Let us immediately note that one of the two plastic bottles should be thinner than the second. Let's get started.

    First of all, we need to drill holes along the diameter of the bolt on the caps from plastic bottles.

    Next, cut off the bottom of the large bottle.

    Now we push the bolt through the holes on the caps of the large and small bottles so that the large bottle is on the outside and the small one is on the inside.

    At this stage we need to make sure that the small bottle is kept strictly in the center. To do this, we fix it with several wood screws, which we screw onto a large bottle.

    Add water to the concrete mixture and mix everything thoroughly.

    Now we pour the resulting concrete into the space between the two bottles.

    In order for the concrete to thoroughly fill the space, we periodically shake our bottles. It is also very important to ensure that there are no bubbles left in the concrete.

    We leave our concrete lamp to dry for about a day.

    When the concrete has dried, remove the screws with which we attached the small bottle.

    Now we remove the bottles from our concrete lamp. To do this, use a stationery knife to make cuts on a large bottle and remove it piece by piece.

    The next thing is to remove the small bottle.

    We insert the wire from the socket through the hole on the top of the concrete lamp, screw on the light bulb and connect the socket to the power source.

    Now our original lamp is ready, and we can decorate our cottage, garage, or even a room in the house with it, and at the same time show off our own design work to friends and acquaintances.
