Concrete barriers for parking: limiters, posts, hemispheres, pedestals - production and installation

Concrete parking barriers are used everywhere today to control the movement of vehicles and pedestrians in certain areas. We are talking about small artificially created obstacles in the form of columns, hemispheres, bollards and other forms designed to block or limit the movement of cars and people for one reason or another.

Thus, the need to install a pole or hemisphere may appear in pedestrian areas, at the entrances to courtyards, playgrounds, around recreation areas in parks and squares. Concrete bollards are often installed to demarcate a parking area in order to reduce the risks for all road users when maneuvering vehicles.

As a rule, concrete elements are equipped with special metal pins that pass through the structure and allow the product to be securely fastened to the road surface. Traffic limiters can be mobile or stationary, temporary or permanent, folding or retractable. But concrete parking restrictions are usually manufactured as stationary, monolithic and for permanent installation.

It is also important that correctly selected and installed pedestals or hemispheres become an obstacle to car theft. The installation of such elements is usually carried out by employees of road construction companies. The most popular concrete fences today are pillars, hemispheres and pedestals. They are made from high-quality and durable, resistant to various influences and durable concrete.

Types and Applications

Concrete parking fencing can be made in any shape or configuration. The most popular small architectural forms are: pillars of different sections and heights, hemispheres cast from concrete, pedestals of any size, cones, pyramids. The main task of all these products is to prevent the movement of cars and pedestrians in a certain area or in the desired direction.

Concrete hemispheres, for example, are often used to lay out the perimeter of parks, pedestrian zones and other places with a heavy flow of people, where it is necessary to limit traffic flow. This is especially true where there are few convenient parking lots and, without pillars or bollards, everything is usually filled with cars - cars are parked on playgrounds, flower beds, lawns, near shopping centers, public catering places and courtyards.

Concrete parking bollards can be intended for temporary installation or permanent installation - in this case they differ in size. Concrete hemispheres are usually installed permanently and can be supplemented with flower beds, flowerpots, additional poles, etc.

The dimensions of the elements depend on the characteristics of the area, operating conditions, availability of finance and personal preferences of those involved in the installation, and may also be regulated by city improvement rules.

Standard sizes of traffic limiters:

  • Concrete hemispheres - weight from 50 to 110 kilograms, diameter from 40 to 60 centimeters
  • Concrete pillar – diameter from 10 centimeters, height from 30 to 100 centimeters
  • Concrete cone - different parameters
  • Concrete sphere and ball - diameter can be different, as well as weight
  • Concrete cabinet - can be square, rectangular, cone-shaped, etc., which determines the size and weight

Advantages

Any concrete fence, be it a parking post or a hemisphere, offers a number of advantages, standing out from other materials and types of products.

The main advantages of concrete parking barriers:

  • Long service life
  • Resistance to various external influences and preservation of appearance throughout the entire service life
  • Practicality, no need for special care
  • Affordable price

  • Wide selection of heights, diameters, dimensions, weights, shapes, product designs
  • Easy installation and ease of transportation
  • Heavy weight, which makes it difficult for vandals to move the fence, resistance to scratches and mechanical stress
  • Safety - concrete hemispheres, for example, will not damage a car or cause injury to pedestrians, but will impede traffic

It is enough to place fences around the perimeter of the restricted zone so that vehicle parking is clearly regulated and under control, and entry is closed where necessary.

Types of fencing

High-strength concrete is used to create fences, which causes a large weight of the structure. Therefore, many types of fencing are not made of concrete - for example, portable lightweight structures are usually made of metal, the same applies to automatic retractable elements. High-strength plastic is often used.

A concrete column or hemisphere is the simplest, inexpensive, effective and versatile option for arranging fencing due to the fact that they are difficult to damage, move or steal (you can only walk around or drive up, which is what is achieved when installing the elements).

Types of fencing according to different parameters:

  • Form

    – ball, hemisphere, square or rectangular stand, cone, pyramid, pillar

  • Height

    – can be any, directly affects the characteristics of the restriction (high and interconnected elements prevent the passage of people, including hemispheres installed at a large distance – only for cars)

  • Dimensions

    – sizes, diameter can also be very different

  • Weight

    – from minimum to maximum (the heavier the product, the more difficult it is to move it)

  • Temporary or permanent

    – usually concrete barriers are installed permanently, but they can also be used as temporary structures (to prevent passage into a certain area, for example)

  • Function

    – small balls or hemispheres, faceted low columns can also perform a decorative function, while impressive structures in certain areas are needed to perform a direct task

  • Color

    – most often a concrete pillar or hemisphere is not painted and they turn out gray, but when pigment is added, concrete can take on any shade

Disadvantages of using a concrete hemisphere

The main disadvantage is considered to be the weight of the limiter, which complicates transportation and then installation. For this purpose, a special tractor equipped with a lifting tower is used. Increasing financial costs creates additional inconvenience. Low quality concrete in the manufacture of hemispheres is also considered a big disadvantage. Due to this, the limiter is quickly destroyed. Another disadvantage is that if the pin is secured with concrete during installation, it will be impossible to remove the limiter from its location, or rather, only after complete destruction.

Manufacturing

To create concrete fences, high-strength concrete grade M350 and higher is used. The inside of the product is reinforced with steel rods, providing additional strength and rigidity. Elements are usually produced in a factory.

If you want to create concrete fences yourself, it’s easy to do: mix the solution (by selecting the desired brand in the table and choosing the right proportions of materials), pour it into special molds with preliminary reinforcement (you can do without it if the product is small), wait a day, remove the product out of the mold, wait for 28 days to dry and fully gain strength.

Installation

Barrier hemispheres are installed on asphalt, paving slabs, open ground
and other surfaces. In closed areas and for temporary use, installation without any fastening is allowed. It is important that the installation site is level. If necessary, you can additionally secure it with concrete mixture. It is applied to the prepared pillow. After installing the monolith, excess mortar is removed around the perimeter. For enhanced grip on hard surfaces, a notch is made.

Also, for anti-vandal protection, they are reinforced with metal reinforcement. The complete set with a pin fixed in the hemisphere is specified when ordering.

Installation

The installation of concrete fences is carried out in accordance with the rules and regulations for the improvement of a city or other populated area, which is usually done by road construction services (except when it comes to personal territory or a yard). Installation is possible on concrete, asphalt, soil, lawn, paving slabs, but the surface must be extremely flat.

The weight of the fence guarantees the strength and reliability of the fixation, but if the mass of the product is small, you need to take care of steel rods. Metal rods to secure the product are mounted into the base during the production of the fencing element.

How to install a concrete hemisphere or pillar:

  • Preparing the installation site - leveling, removing debris
  • Making a hole in the base with a hammer drill
  • If the structure is supposed to be stationary, the pin can be poured into the hole with concrete; if not, simply insert it
  • If you need to make temporary fencing or when installing heavy weight products, you can simply mount them exactly along a line or other reference point

Hemisphere Concrete

Concrete hemispheres/hemispheres are made using the monolith method and have a smooth, non-porous surface suitable for painting outdoors. The hemispheres are made from precast concrete class B35 w16, using reinforcing elements. The concrete from which the hemispheres are made has high strength and moisture resistance and is therefore used for the construction of bridges and tunnels. The surface of the product is smooth and non-porous, and remains intact even under direct physical impact.

Technical characteristics of a standard concrete hemisphere

• Diameter - D 500 mm • Weight of the finished product with a diameter of D 500 - 70 kg • Height - 240 mm • Length of the reinforcing pin for fixing - 150 mm • Diameter of the reinforcing pin for fixing - D 12 • Material - frost-resistant concrete • Surface - smooth, non-porous • Color – gray, yellow, red

Where are concrete hemispheres used?

Concrete hemispheres are used in parking lots of shopping, warehouse and exhibition complexes, gas stations, in residential courtyards, parks, on sidewalks, squares, in front of administrative and residential buildings, in the territories of state educational and health institutions, along roads and highways.

Marking

Hemispheres of this series are produced in various dimensional and design variations, so in production there are concrete products with different alphanumeric markings.

The numbers indicate the size (thickness of the product).

Marking with Roman numerals indicates the type of reinforcement (prestressed rod, non-prestressed).

Delivery Hemisphere Concrete

Delivery of Hemisphere Concrete is carried out by our own transport to Moscow, the region and other regions of Russia! Delivery estimates can be ordered in the Delivery section.

GOST hemispheres are allowed only in a horizontal position in special vehicles. When loading/unloading, it is prohibited to move several pieces at a time. Exception: rigging work with special devices, where lifting several products at the same time is allowed.

When storing in open ground, a pad with a thickness of at least 10 cm is placed at the base of the stack; a drain for water is required.
