Disadvantages of use

laying polymer sand tiles

The disadvantage of polymer sand slabs is their ability to expand under the influence of elevated temperatures. A path paved with a violation of the technological process (gaps between elements is no more than 5 mm) may become deformed in hot summers. Polymer sand blocks are more expensive than their concrete counterparts and require a more complex installation process. The production process is carried out using expensive equipment.

Material Specifications

The quality of polymer tiles depends on the raw materials used, as well as production equipment. However, there are common characteristics that each product in this class has. These include:

  • Density;
  • Dimensions;
  • Water absorption;
  • Abrasion;
  • Frost resistance;
  • Lifetime.

For paving slabs made of polymer materials produced by different manufacturers, some of them, for example, may have different sizes. But as for the rest, they must comply with those specified in the accompanying documentation.

DESCRIPTION

It so happened that when we became the owners of a summer cottage, we want everything on it to be beautiful and look well-groomed and finished. The beauty and aesthetics of the site have long been created by beautifully designed and strictly limited garden paths and areas. But the market for improving paths is poor, and the materials that they are trying to impose on us do not always really correspond to our understanding of beauty and elegance. Or they correspond, but are prohibitively expensive.

For 10 years now we have been producing polymer-sand paving and garden slabs , in order to satisfy your wishes and fantasies of what a garden path made of paving slabs should look like. Tetto polymer sand tiles will make your garden oasis truly elegant.

Due to its high strength, the tiles are easy to cut, and you can create any geometric shapes, designs from paving slabs , and maybe even entire paintings on your site.

By purchasing polymer sand tiles for decorating garden paths or for arranging access for your vehicles and various borders to mark the boundaries of areas and paths, in consultation with our specialists, you will create an extraordinary and unforgettable landscape design for your family and your guests, and your most daring design ideas will come to life.

Tetto decorative garden fences and Tetto polymer sand tiles are also used as borders. You can see examples of such applications in the photo galleries of the corresponding sections of our website.

Our wide selection of polymer-sand paving slabs includes a variety of patterns and color options.

The main advantages of Tetto polymer sand tiles are durability, impact resistance and lack of moisture absorption. It is easy to install, so it is convenient to use for repairs. The high strength characteristics of polymer sand tiles prevent them from cracking and splintering; it is problematic to split them even with a sledgehammer! The product is dyed in the mass, which is why the rich color does not change for a long time. On the back side the tile has grouser voids.

Laying paving slabs

As a rule, the installation of pavement tiles should begin with the creation of a sand cushion, which is made using crushed stone. A concrete base is also suitable. The choice of some installation details should be made taking into account the type of soil and the purpose of the future area. The sand base for tiles is suitable, for example, for garden and pedestrian paths. If the soil of the site is unstable, it is best to use crushed stone, which is also good for parking lots. If you plan to deal with the passage of heavy vehicles, then you should install it on concrete.

For installation you will need the following materials:

  • Sand.
  • In case of laying tiles on a concrete surface, use glue or fresh concrete solution.
  • Crushed stone, which will be necessary when working in areas with unstable soil.

The installation technology is simple, but requires care. After the soil has been examined and the necessary materials have been selected for it, you should wait for dry weather. It is not recommended to sprinkle sawdust on polymer-sand paving tiles. The most common and simplest type of installation consists of the following steps:

  1. Removing soil to a depth of 15-20 centimeters (corresponds to one bayonet of a shovel).
  2. Leveling and removing any foreign objects from the excavated area where further work will be carried out.
  3. Compacting the earth in the recess (it should not be crumbly and contain voids).
  4. Laying a layer of crushed stone to the entire excavated depth, you only need to leave a couple of centimeters.
  5. Next, sand is poured out, the layer of which on top of the previous one should be about 2 centimeters - its purpose is only to level the layer of crushed stone. Next you need to spray it with water and compact it. If the layer sag noticeably, add more, pour water again and tamp.
  6. Using a special hammer, tiles are laid on a pre-leveled sand base. There should be gaps of approximately 5 millimeters between products. These seams must be covered with sand.

For hard and rocky soil, you can do without crushed stone, using only sand. It is important to remember that polymer sandstone is very flexible and expands slightly under the influence of high temperatures, so you must leave small seams between the tiles - you should not lean them tightly against each other. If the area is located in the open air, the water drainage system equipment should not be overlooked.

ATTENTION - FAKES APPEARED!

There are no good polymer sand tiles at very low prices! A greatly reduced cost in 99 cases out of a hundred means savings on the quality of the product: the use of cheap, dangerous and even toxic plastics, lack of quality control, non-compliance with production technology, proportions of materials, reduced service life of the product, inability to obtain products of the same color and quality in the future, if suddenly you don’t have enough.

Polymer sand tiles should not crack when hitting a hard base. A good, high-quality polymer sand tile can be thrown with force against the asphalt and it will not crack. Pay attention to the geometry - the tile must be flat, at least its front part. Also pay attention to the uniformity of the mass and the variety of colors. There should be no strong odor coming from the tiles. Price can also tell about quality; cheap is not always good.

Production technology

The process of manufacturing polymer sand products has a special technology, at the initial stage of which the necessary components are prepared. The tiles include the following:

  • polymers (mostly crushed primary ones, but for the sake of economy, secondary ones can also be used);
  • sand, the particle size of which should not exceed 3 millimeters;
  • dyes that determine the shade of products.

The bulk of the products is sand, which accounts for a 75% share in the solution. Before use, the sand is thoroughly sifted and washed, after which it is poured into special ovens in which it is heated at high temperatures.

After preparing all the components, the process of creating polymer sand tiles begins , which has the following sequence:

  1. The raw materials used are crushed or agglomerated. If polymer chips are used, this step is skipped.
  2. Sand, polymers and dyes are mixed.
  3. The prepared mixture is exposed to high temperatures at which it melts.
  4. The solution is sent under the press to form the final type of slabs.
  5. Finished products are packaged and awaiting shipment to building supply stores.

The entire manufacturing process is accompanied by special equipment, the purpose of which is to provide an automated production system. All this allows you to quickly create durable and reliable products.

ADVANTAGES OF TETTO TILES OVER COMPETITORS

Tetto polymer sand tiles have a number of unique properties unique to them that distinguish them favorably from competitors' products.

  • 1. SAVINGS: The price of our paving slabs is low for the benefits that you will receive if you decide to buy them. Polymer sand tiles will be cheaper in price than good ceramic ones, which crack, cheaper than rubber and WPC (wood-polymer composite) tiles, which do not have sufficient hardness, and not much more expensive than concrete (cement-sand) tiles with all its disadvantages;
  • 2. INCREASED DURABILITY OF THE PRODUCT:
    The increased durability of Tetto polymer sand tiles is due to a whole range of special technological measures during its production and the UNIQUE COMPOSITION of the polymer composite. At the production stage of the product, specially selected and prepared modified polymers and components, special additives and minerals are introduced into its composition, which give the tile additional PROTECTION FROM THE ENTIRE SPECTRUM OF SOLAR RADIATION, additional frost resistance, resistance to aggressive environments and temperature changes, which in turn order increases the durability of the product COMPARED TO COMPETITORS' PRODUCTS.
  • 3. INCREASED IMPACT RESISTANCE OF THE PRODUCT:
    The material itself has high strength, as a result of which it is characterized by a COMPLETE ABSENCE of breakage during loading and unloading operations, especially those performed manually, transportation, falling from a height, or processing with a cutting tool.
  • 4. ADDITIONAL PROTECTION OF THE TILE FROM UV rays:
    Polymer sand tiles Tetto DO NOT LOSE COLOR under the influence of sunlight and do not require additional painting, like competitors' products. HIGH UV RESISTANCE is achieved thanks to a large percentage of sand in the composite, a selection of special coloring pigments, additives, minerals and modified polymers, which significantly SLOW DOWN THE AGING PROCESS of the tiles from the sun.
  • 5. ADDITIONAL PROTECTION OF THE TILES FROM INFRARED RADIATION:
    Most manufacturers of polymer sand tiles DO NOT APPLY additional protection of the composite from infrared radiation and, at best, limit themselves to protection from ultraviolet radiation. Our company introduces special components into the tiles that PROTECT THE PRODUCTS from the effects of this negative factor and INCREASE DURABILITY BY AN ORDER.
  • 6. IMPROVED TILE FROST RESISTANCE:
    The entire structure of the material is MICRO-REINFORCED, which gives the tile additional frost resistance, and also increases the overall strength and durability of the product. Our tiles are perfectly adapted to DIFFERENT CLIMATIC CONDITIONS. Resistance to frost and temperature changes is provided by polymer sand composite reinforcement. Our company was the FIRST IN RUSSIA TO APPLY and is applying the technology of reinforcing polymer sand products.
  • 7. INCREASED RESISTANCE TO AGGRESSIVE ENVIRONMENTS:
    The unique composition of Tetto tiles provides excellent RESISTANCE TO ALL KNOWN NATURAL PHENOMENA such as acid rain, the activity of bacteria and lower plants, to heat and frost, hail and hurricanes, to radiation from the ultraviolet and infrared parts of the solar spectrum. The low water absorption of the material adds durability and does not allow ice to “grow” to its surface and structure in winter, and ice easily breaks off from the surface when it is removed;
  • 8. EASY INSTALLATION:
    One of the main advantages of Tetto tiles is the CONVENIENCE of WORKING with them; they are easily processed with cutting tools without cracking and DO NOT break during work. Installation of polymer sand tiles is SO SIMPLE that, if desired, it can be carried out even by a non-specialist. The material of the tile is viscous, which allows you to screw anything to it with a self-tapping screw.
  • 9. LOW WEIGHT:
    The low weight of the products compared to other types of coatings allows you to transport MORE tiles at a time and significantly SAVE on freight transportation. And on exploited roofs, the weight of the tiles is of no small importance
  • 10. AESTHETICS:
    We offer a WIDE range of tile colors. Polymer sand tiles look very AESTHETIC and outperform many floor coverings in terms of beauty, variety of textures, shapes, and colors.
  • 11. ENVIRONMENTAL FRIENDLY:
    The water that we drink from plastic bottles and that is supplied to the tap through plastic pipes is absolutely normal and harmless. Thus, the harmlessness and environmental friendliness of polymer sand tiles has been confirmed by MANY YEARS OF USE OF PLASTIC PRODUCTS IN HOUSEHOLD. The material is environmentally friendly, does not emit cement dust, which is formed during the operation of concrete slabs, and does not emit carcinogenic substances, unlike asphalt in the heat.
  • 12. HOMOGENEOUSITY:
    All elements of Tetto polymer sand tiles are HOMOGENEOUS IN COMPOSITION and thus such a factor as a different expansion coefficient is excluded, the coating FUNCTIONS AS A SINGLE STRUCTURE.
  • 13. LOW THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY AND INJURY DANGER:
    It has LOW THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY and high heat capacity, which gives it THERMAL INSULATION PROPERTIES, which is important, for example, for stables, cowsheds, and enclosures. When used as a covering for children's playgrounds, INJURIES AND ILLNESS ARE REDUCED, since the tiles are warm and have plasticity.
  • 14. COLOR RANGE:
    Tetto sand-polymer tiles are presented in a WIDE RANGE OF COLORS, which will certainly add sophistication to any architectural solution. The color palette that you prefer to see will not be lost over time, since the material is colored throughout the entire thickness of the product.

Composition and manufacturing technology

Polymer paving slabs are used to organize paths, sidewalks and areas near private or public buildings. With its help, parking lots, blind areas, playgrounds for children and much more are equipped. The presence of polymer elements in the composition increases density, wear resistance and ductility, and also improves the attractiveness of the material.

For the production of slabs, fine-grained sand with a fraction of up to 3 mm, crushed polymers and dyes of inorganic origin are used. Before being added to the composition, sand undergoes deep cleaning and hardening, is combined with other additives and processed using special equipment.

For work, use a press, extruder or concrete mixer. After going through the pressing and heat treatment stage, the tile becomes moisture resistant and reliable.

She is not afraid of temperatures dropping to -70°C or being in an aggressive environment with constant exposure to chemicals, gasoline or oils. The finished block weighs relatively little and comes in different shades and textures. During operation, the problem of dust formation is eliminated.

Laying technology

Methods for laying paving slabs begin with the choice of technology for the laying process. This process depends on the properties of the soil on which the coating will be placed. But in any case, you need to prepare basic materials and tools:

  • A mixture of sand and cement, the proportion of this composition is 1:4.
  • When laying on a concrete surface, prepare an adhesive or concrete solution.
  • Crushed stone. Its use is simply necessary in case of unstable soil conditions.

Let's consider some methods of laying paving slabs: the method of laying the covering on a sand base, and laying it on a crushed stone base.

Laying stages

Laying on a sand base

This process can be completed without much effort if you follow all the steps in the order of work.

  • The final stage is laying tiles, which can be laid in two ways: Scheme for laying tiles on a sandy surface
  • Sand filling. This stage must be carried out in several passes. Each of which must be accompanied by watering and compaction.
  • Geotextiles are laid on the compacted surface of the earth. For weak heaving soils, this is a necessary measure. It is laid in overlapping sections, the joints are secured with PVC tape.
  • Concrete mortar is poured onto the sand base, acting as a concrete pad, and curbs must be installed immediately.
  • Marking border lines. It is performed using stretched threads and hammered stakes.
  • Sand, 5 cm thick, is poured into the bottom of the ditch. After leveling, it is watered generously and compacted.
  • Forming grooves for installing curbs.
  • Tamping the prepared area.

    When laying paving slabs, it is important to prevent the layers of the road base from mixing with each other

  • Leveling and planning the surface of the ditch, with mandatory observance of the slope.
  • Prepare the soil for laying, which involves digging it out, to the depth of a shovel or 15-20 cm.
  • The tiles are laid on a compacted sand surface, maintaining horizontality. A rubber hammer is used to knock down the tiles. The gap between the tiles should be 3–5 mm.
  • A layer of reinforcing mesh is laid on the compacted sand surface. The next layer is a dry composition of sand and cement, in a ratio of 3:1. This layer is watered, and only then can polymer sand tiles be laid on it.
  • After finishing the laying process, the gaps between the tiles must be filled with sand.

Laying on a crushed stone base

The laying technology in this case is slightly different from the previous technology. Compliance with all rules and sequences will lead to the desired result.

  • Preparation of the soil and ditch and other stages of work, until the installation of the curb, are carried out according to the same rules as the first option. Site preparation - backfilling and compacting crushed stone
  • Instead of sand, crushed stone is used for backfilling.
  • The resulting pillow must be compacted as much as possible.
  • On the surface of the crushed stone, a screed of concrete mortar is made, the thickness of which is 5-10 cm. The slope, as in the first option, must be observed.
  • The tiles are laid either on concrete mortar or tile adhesive. The second method is more reliable, but it turns out to be more expensive. If the tiles are laid on concrete mortar, the layer thickness should be 2–3 cm.
  • The final stage is filling the gap between the tiles. This can be done with sand or a cement-sand mixture (1:3), using a brush with stiff bristles.
  • After all work, the surface is watered.

Recommendations for choosing products

The range of polymer sand products in construction stores is quite wide, but the final choice should be made taking into account the following parameters:

  • Additives and dyes. Not only the shade, but also many characteristics of the products will depend on them. For example, high-quality German dyes have a long service life, while Chinese paints tend to gradually lose their color when exposed to sunlight.
  • Foreign inclusions on the surface of the tiles may indicate the use of low-quality components in their creation or a violation of production technology. For example, white stains are one of the possible signs that the production of the material was accompanied by a violation of the temperature regime and such a product will not have high strength.
  • Uneven coloring of tile products may indicate that low-quality substances were used in production. Moreover, they can be not only dyes, so it is better to refrain from purchasing such tiles.

Having familiarized yourself with the advantages, disadvantages, areas of application and tips for purchasing polymer sand slabs, you can make the final choice - whether it is worth using it, and under what conditions it will be justified. For sidewalks where there may be a need for other work, such products are ideal, as they are easily dismantled and can withstand mechanical loads.

APPLICATION

Polymer sand tiles Tetto will solve many problems when decorating and landscaping your garden plot.

It is ideal for implementing shapes and ideas in landscape design.

Polymer sand garden and paving slabs Tetto are excellent for laying outdoors, arranging paths in parks, garden paths, house areas, all kinds of sidewalks, paths, squares, and parking lots.

Our tiles are also used for entrance areas, porches, protection against destruction of blind areas , and cladding of building plinths.

Polymer sand paving slabs can be used to pave the floor in a gazebo , or terrace , and even on a balcony . This is often done directly on the joists through special stands. The tile will not rot or collapse. Most importantly, do not forget to treat the joists and crowns with special impregnations to prevent rotting, but even in this case, our tiles will “outlive” the wooden frame! Therefore, the tiles are great for balconies and gazebos .

In a similar way - on special stands - tiles for used roofs . On exploited roofs, the tiles perform excellently due to their excellent consumer characteristics, namely low weight, which is especially important for exploited roofs .

The version of the product “Without a pattern” or as it is also called “Smooth” is perfect for a workshop floor . It does not form sparks, is resistant to almost all aggressive environments, and is oil and gasoline resistant . These qualities allow it to be used at gas stations and power plants .

Well, better tiles for a garage . If you spill oil, it’s not a problem - it’s not a problem for the tile; if you cut something with gas, with a grinder, or use electric welding, sparks fly - the tile won’t ignite. If you dropped a sledgehammer, no problem, the floor will remain intact.

The combination of the unique properties of the tile makes its use as workshop tiles , garage floor tiles the most reasonable solution.

Our tiles are used as steps in the manufacture of stairs , entrances to hallways and shops. The tiles are well suited for welded metal stairs .

Another advantage of polymer-sand garden tiles is that they can be laid on children’s playgrounds , they are warm and you can walk on them barefoot, which reduces the risk of injury.

Pets also love to sleep on it and specifically choose for rest that part of the area that is covered with polymer-sand tiles . Polymer sand tiles are often used for enclosures for dogs and pets. They lay our tiles for cowsheds ; cattle (cattle) tolerate the winter well, because... The tiles are warm. The tiles are used for stables ; horses' hooves do not rub against the tiles.

Polymer sand tiles 500x500 and 300x300 can be used as a stand for a home, a change house, a garage, or a gazebo. To do this, it is enough to knock together several tiles with nails or tighten them with self-tapping screws, obtaining an ideal stack-block.

A stack of 500x500 polymer tiles can withstand phenomenal weight, are not afraid of moisture and frost, and have lugs on the reverse side for greater stability. You can diversify the stack with different colors, which will once again allow you to show off your design ideas.

The range of sand-polymer tiles comes in different thicknesses, multiples of 5 mm, thereby making it easy to achieve the required height or desired slope.

It happens that after the winter period, the structure, which stands on paving slabs , deepens, “sinks” into the ground - let’s add a few additional paving slabs - the problem is solved.

In order to achieve a complete and technologically advanced paving covering with polymer tiles, we also suggest using for the arrangement: curb stones , drainage trays for surface water drainage with drainage grates to the trays.

Areas of use

Tile products made from polymers and sand components are in demand among owners of city houses, owners of summer cottages, professional builders, and so on. The areas of use of tiles are quite wide, for example:

  • It is used for laying the local area . In this case, for example, garden paths, areas near gazebos and swimming pools may be subject to registration.
  • As a complement to landscape design, various plant, flower and other compositions on the site.
  • Like masonry at gas stations, car washes and service stations.
  • For finishing the basement, steps and other elements of the house.
  • As a covering for parks, shopping centers, playgrounds, enterprise areas and so on.

The areas of application are not limited to this. In this case, the boundaries are determined only by imagination, a sense of style and common sense.

Comparative characteristics of polymer sand and concrete tiles

When arranging sidewalks and areas near the house, concrete slabs and polymer structures are used. The first material is distinguished by its affordable cost and ease of production.

But concrete quickly deforms and becomes covered with dust. Therefore, polymer products are more popular. They are characterized by good ductility, water resistance and a long service life. The tiles also meet all environmental standards.

Water absorption rates for materials based on polymer raw materials do not exceed 0.15%, for concrete - 4-6.5%. The frost resistance of polymer-sand tiles is 500 cycles, and that of concrete tiles is 200-400. The bending strength of polymer structures is 25-35 MPa.

When exposed to temperatures above +45°C, concrete surfaces may begin to release harmful substances. To melt polymer products, you will need to heat the material in a special furnace to +120°C.

The raw materials for the polymer material are characterized by environmental safety, since they consist of sand and dyes. Concrete blocks require quarries and the use of heavy equipment.

PRODUCTION OF POLYMER SAND TILES TETTO

Tetto tiles are a modern floor covering with the best price/quality ratio!

Nowadays, many people have been burned more than once using concrete and ceramic tiles as paving surfaces.

As you walk around the city, look around at what concrete or ceramic tiles that have stood for several years look like. You will see that some of the tiles have burst, split, crumbled, and faded.

Trust in these materials, and especially concrete tiles, has been lost today. There are too many manufacturers . It is produced in almost every garage cooperative . Finding more or less high-quality concrete tiles has become very problematic. And it’s also good if you buy CONCRETE tiles, not CEMENT-SAND tiles!

The situation is somewhat different with the production of polymer sand tiles . The equipment for its production is still not as cheap as for sand-cement. Setting up its production is much more difficult and costly. And it is even more difficult to establish the production of high-quality polymer sand tiles - huge costs are required to modernize production lines and production technology. Not many production facilities in Russia can boast of this.

Of course, as they say, every family has its black sheep, you can stumble upon bad polymer sand tiles, we wrote about this above in the “Beware of fakes” section. This is often caused by the fact that there are no good production lines for sale. A simple line is purchased, the entrepreneur struggles with it for a year or two, selling the results of his production research for pennies to satisfied clients, and successfully closes down. The result of such activity is usually not so satisfied customers, and negative reviews about polymer sand tiles on forums on the Internet.

All those manufacturers who can make high quality tiles have spent years upgrading and fine-tuning the process. Each such production is unique and keeps its inventions in the strictest confidence.

Our company has been producing polymer sand tiles for 10 years. We have spent a lot of effort and money to offer you a high-quality, safe product. The production process and equipment were modernized, technology was honed, and a unique polymer composite formulation was developed. And we don't stop there. The process of improving product quality is ongoing.

We produce polymer sand paving slabs by pressing molten thermoplastic composite material.

The polymer composite contains only specially selected high-quality safe materials that have passed incoming quality control: quartz sand with low clay content, a composite of modified polymers, coloring dyes and pigments made in Europe, special unique additives, which are our know-how.

Thus, we offer our customers only first-class materials for construction work that have high performance and environmental characteristics.

Main characteristics

Technologies for the production of polymer-based boards make it possible to create durable and reliable products that are used in finishing, construction and site decoration. Polymer-sand paving slabs, which have a number of advantages, for example, over concrete products, compare favorably in this regard. The undeniable advantage of this material is that it is resistant to mechanical stress, while having a variety of beautiful variations and bright colors. These tiles combine comfort and quality.

One of the most noticeable characteristics of such tiles is the fact that no cement dust appears when they are laid. Any common types of installation do not lead to damage or cracking, which is due to its plasticity property. There are no difficulties in caring for the products, since they are easily washed with ordinary water without absorbing it, which allows you to not worry about reducing their shelf life.

In shape, these products have different shades and patterns, which not every tile can boast of. Polymer paving slabs, despite their considerable size, have a relatively low weight. But it can be used not only for the sidewalk - it is suitable, for example, for cladding external walls, laying borders or roofing (in the latter case, it is recommended to lay the tiles on a waterproofing layer on top of the supports).

TESTING SITE

Currently, there is a lot of debate about the correct method of laying polymer-sand tiles for paving, terraces, and gardens.

Construction forums on the Internet are replete with reviews from owners who laid tiles themselves, advice from manufacturers who are simply passing by but have their own strong opinions about everything in the world, competitors who give horror to potential buyers or citizens who have already laid tiles.

There is so much information and it is so contradictory that the interested person, instead of clearly understanding the question of what and how to lay polymer sand tiles, becomes completely disoriented.

Usually, the most accurate information is, of course, on the websites of the manufacturers of this tile. It describes the most proven methods of laying and installing polymer sand tiles.

In August 2016 For our clients, we decided to simplify the task of choosing a method for laying polymer-sand tiles and made a test site, where on an old concrete base simulating a platform for a car or a blind area, we demonstrated the most popular and, in our opinion, the most reasonable methods of installing polymer-sand tiles. We used leftover tiles from the warehouse.

We laid the tiles:

- just on the sand, sealing the seams with sand;

- on a sand-cement cushion with a sand-to-cement ratio of 5:1, sealing the joints with sand;

- on a sand-cement cushion with the addition of tile adhesive with a ratio of sand to cement to adhesive of 4:1:1, sealing the seams with sand;

- only for tile adhesive, sealing joints with a special sealant;

- for various industrial adhesives with sealing of seams with a special sealant.

To begin with, we made a frame from a 40x20 profile pipe, simulating a curb. We divided the site into 6 plots of 4 sq.m. for different installation methods.

Filled the gaps between the base and frame

The resulting niches were filled with sand, sand-cement and sand-cement with glue mixtures.

We made leveling ties for adhesive installation methods.

After completing the preparation of the bases, we began laying in various ways.

The methods for installing polymer sand tiles on sand, sand-cement and sand-cement with glue are very similar.

Laying on moistened sand in a layer of 30-40mm:

Laying on a sand-cement cushion 30-40 mm.

Laying on a sand-cement pad with 30-40 mm glue.

Spilling from a watering can. At this stage, be sure to remember to wash off the cement stains. Otherwise, immediately after laying, the tiles will not look very nice, although over time the whiteness from the cement will still go away.

Next, we proceed to laying it with tile adhesive.

Laying with various industrial adhesives and sealing seams using special sealant and masking tape.

Based on the appearance of the resulting site, the simplicity and cost of installation, the commission voted on the method of laying it on sand.

Next, we left all the sites for a month to allow the adhesives to fully polymerize and the concrete to gain strength.

A month later, trial operation began.

Passenger cars, loaded trucks, and forklifts with cargo arrived. There are no comments on any installation method - all methods can withstand loads.

Operation also takes place during the winter. Among other things, there are forklifts whose wheels are equipped with snow chains.

In May 2022, we will study how it will withstand the winter and thaws, after which we will test the platforms for tearing the tiles away from the base.

ATTENTION! Before you start laying paving slabs, we strongly recommend that you familiarize yourself with the technology of laying and installing polymer sand tiles , which is published on our website, and not on third-party sites and construction forums!!!

Masonry technology

Having completed the preparatory work and made sure that the concrete has dried and acquired the required hardness, you can proceed to the main part of the work. If cracks form, the tile will no longer be suitable for use.

Installation of the coating on a concrete pad is simple and accessible. In this case, the blocks can be fixed on sand and crushed stone, or only on sand.

The laying technology involves the use of the “checkerboard” or “herringbone” technique. Due to the minimal weight of polymer products, they can be fixed to the roof or supporting structures with a waterproofing coating.

Installation is carried out in dry weather, and the distance between the blocks is at least 5-7 mm. The base is pre-leveled.

If a large load is placed on the tiles, the cushion must be carefully strengthened and the water drainage system taken care of. If all recommendations and installation rules are followed, the work will be simple, but require attention and responsibility.

Popular sizes, weight and approximate price

Paving slabs come in various sizes. It is produced mainly in regular geometric shapes and in several color options. The height of tiles with a corrugated surface reaches 30 mm or 25 mm, the traditional standard size of an individual element is 300 x 300, 300 x 330, 330 x 330 mm. The weight of 1 square meter is from 3.5 to 4 kg.

The final cost of the polymer sand material includes production costs, energy resources, and the price of the main components. To reduce the cost of the final product, a cheap plasticizer and untreated sand are used. Tiles from a well-known manufacturer with high quality characteristics cost from 3.5 to 5 dollars per 1 square meter. In a package of high-quality tiles, all elements will be the same size, correct shape, with a uniform surface color.

Playing with the texture and different colors of tiles on your site will help you create a unique design for your garden paths.

Polymer-based products

How are tiles made?

Polymer sand tiles were originally developed as a material with a long service life, good strength and frost resistance. The main competitor in this segment was and remains concrete-based paving stones, so we will compare polymer-sand products with them.

Composition of raw materials for the production of paving stones

The raw materials for the production of such paving slabs include three main components:

  1. The binder (about 25% of the volume) is crushed polymers. When melted under high temperatures (approximately 250 ° C), they become fluid and combine with the filler.

It is cheapest to use recycled polyethylene products

  1. Filler (up to 75%) - medium-fraction sand with grain no more than 3 mm. Before mixing with polymer crumbs, sand must be sifted to remove organic impurities and large granules, which reduce strength. After heat treatment, the sand is firmly sintered with the polymer, forming a stable structure.

Adding pigments allows you to get tiles of different colors

  1. Dye - added in small quantities to give the tile the desired shade. The low melting point of plastic allows the use of a wide palette of pigments, so the range of polymer sand tiles is extensive.

When stamping, the material is compacted, due to which the strength increases significantly

In the production of polymer-sand paving slabs, a molten mixture of sand and polymer is molded under a press. As a result, air is almost completely removed from the material: the paving stones are dense and therefore more durable.

Main features of the material

When cold, the polymer does not exhibit any chemical activity and is absolutely harmless to the human body. So much so that even children's baths are made from it. A substance reacts only in two cases: when heated or under the influence of a strong solvent. When producing tiles, a heating method is used. The molten mass of plastic easily mixes with other components and exhibits chemical activity.

The main feature of this material is that for its production, instead of cement, a dry plastic mass is used, which, after mixing with sand, is heated to 180 degrees. Subsequently, the resulting molten substance is cooled and a product of a certain shape is formed from it under a heat press. The polymer firmly connects the grains of sand to each other; this does not even require the addition of water.

But even such a durable material requires careful handling and proper installation. Proper installation of polymer sand tiles, like any other tile, allows you to increase its service life for a long time and maintain its original appearance.
